The Chitwan Chepang hill trail offers a rare combination of cultural and sightseeing experience. One of the most interesting aspect of the trek is getting a glimpse of the Chepangs and other local communities who live in this mid-hill region of Nepal.
Accepting the invitation of the villagers to stay in the beautiful homes as guests and sharing their meals is a journey of discovery in itself.
>ACCOMODATION : beside home stay facilities, resting places, porters shelter with bathroom/toilet are also available. Tea house is available in Siddi.
All major tourist facilities available in Sauraha near Chitwan and Narayanghat.
>FOOD : organic locally produced agricultural items are available along the trail: millets, corn, wheat, dido (nepali food), roti, dal and rice, seasonable veg and fruits, ghee, honey, curd
Itinerary
D-1: arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
D-2: visit of Kathmandu: Durbar Square and its bazar, temples, Royal Palace, the goddess Kumaris home.
Afternoon: visit of the Buddhist Stupa of Swayambunath, one of the oldest religious sites of Nepal, worshipped by both Buddhists and Hindus.
Visit of Pashupatinath, the Benares of Nepal, dedicated to the God Shiva on the Bagmati River and visit of Bouddahnath and its famous Stupa, one of the biggest in southern Asia.
You can take some rest during this day.
D-3: Katmandou-Charaudi by bus / rafting to Kurlinghat ( grade 3 : easy ) : 4h / drive back to Hugli Bazar. Overnight in guest house.
D-4: Hugli Bazar-Hattibang (1410m): 4-5h : this walk offers good scenery of the surrounding mountains and touch of Magar, Chepang and Giripuri culture.
D-5: Hattibang-Gaddi (1270m): 6h : Spectacular views of Himalayan peaks such as Rolwaling, Gaurishankar, Langtang, Manaslu, Annapurnas...from Siraichuli ( 2000m) the highest point of the Mahabarath Range, then descent through dense forets ( popular bird watching place) : 250 varieties of birds and home to other wild animals.
D-6 : Gaddhi-Shakdikar: 3h : In Shakdikar you will have a cultural experience : cultural shows, Chepang museum, and visitor's information center.
D-7: Shakdikar-Sinti-Majhbang: 6h : we walk through bird watching reserve to the Sinti water fall , we return to the Chepang village of Majhbang.
D-8: Majhbang- Chitram water fall -Majhbang: 4h
D-9 : Majhbang-Shakdikar : We return by the same route we took.
D-10: jeep to Chitwan
D-11 to D-13: program in Chiwan : Elephant back safari, jungle walk, cultural programs...
D-14: drive back to KTM : 6 h .
D-15: day rest
D-16: transfert to airport and return.
